- Read Luke 24:13-35 — What is one thing that stands out to you from the passage or from the sermon this past Sunday?
- How would you have been feeling if you were on the travelers that day walking the road to Emmaus?
- What do you think it means to live with resurrection perspective?
- In verse 21 we hear of their hopes — what are they missing? What temporal hopes do you find yourself pursuing or daydreaming about?
- Spend a moment interacting with this quote from Gerald May. What resonates with you? Finally, I realized that for both myself and other people, addictions are not limited to substances. I was also addicted to work, performance, responsibility, intimacy, being liked, helping others, and an almost endless list of other behaviors. I also learned that all people are addicts, and that addictions to alcohol and other drugs are simply more obvious and tragic addictions than others have. To be alive is to be addicted, and to be alive and addicted is to stand in need of grace. Because of our addictions, we will always be storing up treasures somewhere other than heaven, and these treasures will kidnap our hearts and souls and strength…My self-esteem crumbles as I sense how truly out of control I am. I am in the clutches of the enemy, and the enemy is clearly myself.
- Look back at verses 25-31 — What does Jesus do to correct their thinking? What does Luke mean when he says Jesus “interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”? What do you think it means that their “hearts burned”?
- Look at verses 32-35 and spend some time praying that our hearts would would burn within us and that we would share our resurrection stories.
